'My body is responding' - Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo discusses future plans

Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has commented on how long he can continue playing - insisting he is now thinking "more in the short term nowadays".

The legendary forward, who previously played for Sporting Lisbon, Real Madrid and Juventus, is now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr. He is currently on international duty with the likes of United duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes and netted a penalty in Friday's 3-2 win against Slovakia.

The Selecao face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday night having already sealed their place at next summer's Euro 2024 Championship in Germany. Speaking ahead of that game, Ronaldo has spoken about his plans for the future, but insists for the time being he still feels "in good shape physically".

He told reporters [via Goal]: "Things have happened in my life, both on a personal and professional level, that make me think more in the short term nowadays. People say I’m going to play on until I’m 40 or 41 years old. I don’t set these targets.

"It’s a question of just enjoying the moment, which is a good moment. I feel good. My body is responding to how I’ve treated it over the years.

"I’m happy both at my club and in the Selecao. I’ve scored plenty of goals, I feel in good shape physically. It’s a question of enjoying the moment."

Quizzed on how long he can keep going in 2020, the Portuguese icon previously told Marca: "Much will depend on what I feel, on my motivation.

"Physically it will never be a problem. I am treating myself well and I think can play safely up to 40 years.
