Stirling Albion boss hopes for January window boost as Binos prepare for primetime Hamilton clash

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young is hopeful of doing some shrewd shopping in the January sales as his side prepare for another night in front of the TV cameras on Saturday.

The Binos’ three-match unbeaten run came to a thundering halt last weekend as league leaders Falkirk ensured a special 2023 ended on the sourest of notes with the Bairns romping to a 5-0 victory at the Falkirk Stadium.

It’s the second time that Stirling have gone down to a five-goal defeat this season – and the other was inflicted by this weekend’s opponents Hamilton Accies during the sides’ last meeting in South Lanarkshire in November.

However, it may be the first fixture between the sides at Forthbank in early September that may instead provide the blueprint.

Accies raced to a two-goal lead and could have been several goals up with their dominance in the opening stages, but Josh Cooper pegged the visitors back with a strike on the stroke of half-time, before Kyle Banner found a deserved leveller in the second period.

The task will not be an easy one, with John Rankin’s side looking to keep up the pressure on the Bairns at the League One summit and coming off a five-goal showing of their own away at Edinburgh City last time out.

In fact, Hamilton enjoyed a five-goal lead before the break against the beleaguered bottom dogs before the Citizens scored a couple of late consolations to succumb 5-2.

This time, the BBC Alba cameras will be in attendance to cover the clash under the lights – with Young admitting after the Falkirk mauling that he would be looking for a “reaction” from his troops as they return to home comforts.
