Steve Bruce names Manchester United's best manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement
Former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce believes Jose Mourinho is the best manager that the club has had since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement a decade ago.
Mourinho was the third permanent boss to step into the Old Trafford home dugout after Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/13 season. The Portuguese chief, who is currently in charge of Italian side Roma, succeeded Louis van Gaal in May 2016.
He spent two-and-a-half years in charge in M16, leading United to three major trophies in his first season at the helm in the shapes of the FA Community Shield, the League Cup and the UEFA Europa League. However, he was axed in December 2018 following a run of just one win in six Premier League matches and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, initially on an interim basis.

Prior to Erik ten Hag's arrival at the club last year, however, United had failed to win a single piece of silverware since Mourinho's departure, meaning their League Cup triumph over Newcastle United in February this year marked their first major trophy in six years. The Dutchman, despite the current rut United find themselves in, has done a good job since taking charge.
Despite the former Ajax boss earning plenty of plaudits for the way he has rekindled standards at Old Trafford and handled a series of difficult scenarios, Bruce, who won three Premier League titles during his time at United, believes Mourinho is the best manager to have walked through the M16 entrance since Ferguson decided to call it a day, highlighting his track record for winning major honours.
