Stale Solbakken set for Scotland dead rubber as Norway boss gets dreaded vote of confidence after miserable Euros campaign

Norway manager Stale Solkbakken has been handed a dreaded vote of confidence ahead of next month's trip to Hampden.

Despite possessing world class talents like Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, Solbakken has overseen a bitterly disappointing qualification campaign for Euro 2024, with last week's 1-0 defeat at home to Spain sealing their fate and ensured they're still searching for qualification to a first major tournament since Euro 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Solbakken's side have collected just three wins from seven qualifying matches so far, are five points behind Scotland having played a game more and face Steve Clarke 's jubilant side in Glasgow on November 19 in their final group fixture - and, despite being a dead rubber, Solbakken knows how important a positive result could be for his future. Lise Klaveness, the president of the Norwegian FA, admits their disastrous collapse to Scotland in Oslo in the summer shattered them, saying: "We stand by Stale. It's a long-term plan.

"I must be absolutely clear that we extended with Stale at a time when it was already a bit uncertain. We had taken one point against Georgia away, zero points against Spain, but we have full confidence in him.

"We knew what we were doing when we gave him a new contract because we didn't believe, and I still don't believe, that we would be in a better place with another coach.

"I think he is the right person to take this project forward. That is still my strong opinion, and he still has the board's trust.

"Of course we are disappointed over the qualifiers as a whole.

"We have actually played some very good matches - away against Spain for example.

"But we know the Scotland game was decisive. We were very good until the last
