Angus Gunn facing Scotland injury race as Norwich boss admits national team call 'makes no sense' on one condition

Norwich boss David Wagner doubts Angus Gunn will be fit for Scotland duty in this month’s closing Euro 2024 qualifying double header against Georgia and Norway.

The goalkeeper has been ever-present in the opening six games as Steve Clarke’s troops made history by qualifying in quick time with two games to spare. But Gunn suffered a muscle injury to his left leg against Leeds last month and looks increasingly likely to miss the final two group games as the battle for top spot with Spain goes to the wire.

Clarke will name his squad next week ahead of the trip to Tblisi on November 16 with Norway bringing the curtain down on the campaign at Hampden three days later. And Gunn’s injury could open the door to Liam Kelly and Zander Clark, both of whom made their Scotland debuts in the 4-1 friendly defeat to France last month.

Gunn, who has sat out the Canaries defeats to Middlesbrough and Sunderland is expected to miss their upcoming games against Blackburn and Cardiff.

And Wagner fears the international double header will come too soon for the 27-year-old. He said: “No, I can't see this, I can't see that he will be ready immediately from the first day in the international break, because then he would be with us for Cardiff.

“Obviously if he will make Cardiff then he can go to the Scotland national team, but if he doesn’t make Cardiff I think then it makes no sense. But at the end of the day, we now have to see how everything progresses over these next 10 days, two weeks to make a final call.

“At the minute I can't see that he will go to Scotland's international team because he will not be ready to train, and then it makes no sense.”
