Steven Naismith reveals Euro 2024 dream as Hearts boss set to fire up campervan for Germany

Steven Naismith admits he’s planning a road trip to Germany at next summer’s Euro finals, with his campervan ready to come out of storage.

The Hearts boss was part of Steve Clarke’s backroom staff before relinquishing the role to focus on his appointment as head coach of the Jambos. But as the Tartan Army gets set to mobilise for a continental football extravaganza, Naismith is already planning his own tour of duty in his motorhome.

He said: “It is brilliant for us, brilliant for the country and I may go and watch as a fan. I have got a campervan – I’ve not slept in one yet but you never know. I am not ruling anything out. Another thing is this one is better because the last Euros we went to was just like being in an international camp when you are going somewhere and there is no real build-up or atmosphere of it. Whereas, this is one country. The whole tournament is there and it will be brilliant. Why would I not try to enjoy that as a fan if I can?”

Scotland’s qualification with two games to spare has injected genuine optimism that Germany 2024 can also carve out a piece of history for a side which Naismith is adamant can take the next step by progressing through the group stage.

The 51-times capped former Scotland striker points to a squad which has grown together and is geared towards peaking at the Euro finals.

He said: “We have a group of players who are at a really good age and have brilliant experience winning trophies, led by Andy
Robertson who is an unbelievable Scotland captain. That shows we are not scared of anybody but we know that everything is based on hard work. We have shown that. Everybody who comes into the team has to work hard for the team.
