Smirking Michael Stewart trolls Rangers with Hampden gag as 'silver lining' mic drop earns Alan Hutton head shake

Grinning Michael Stewart couldn't resist a chance to wind up Alan Hutton over Rangers move to Hampden.

Philippe Clement's side played their first game of the new campaign at the national stadium on Saturday as they saw off Motherwell - with the Light Blues' moving across Glasgow from Ibrox amid delays to construction work. One of the biggest tests for Rangers during their stay away from Govan is path to the Champions League - with Dynamo Kyiv arriving in Mount Florida on Tuesday night following the 1-1 draw in Poland last week.

And the temporary change of home venue has earned little sympathy from former Hearts and Hibs midfielder Stewart as he baited former Light Blues' defender Hutton before the clash with the Ukrainian side. While previewing the crucial clash for Clement's men on Premier Sports' 'Scottish Football Social Club', Stewart said: "If Rangers do get into the Champions League, which hopefully they can do that, it's very difficult to then...."

Host Darrell Currie cut in: "He has tried to win them back, Al." Hutton couldn't help but laugh before Stewart answered: "Darrell, I am a nice, calm, across the board, non-partisan football observer in this country.

"This is absolutely outrageous. The point I was going to make is if they do get in the Champions League it's very difficult to then do deals quickly for the calibre of players that Rangers will need to go and challenge domestically.

Former Scotland cap Stewart made sure to have the final word on the Euro blockbuster. He rounded off with the one liner: "There is one silver lining in all over this for Rangers, at least they are guaranteed a good number of games at Hampden."
