Sir Alex Ferguson left gobsmacked by Man United player who is now set for return

Former Manchester United midfielder Ravel Morrison is set to face off against his former club on Wednesday - twelve years after leaving Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract at MLS outfit DC United expired in 2023, and consequently, he's been training with the Professional Footballers' Association during pre-season to keep fit. As part of his preparation for the new season, Morrison has been named in the PFA's 18-man squad that will face Manchester United's under-21s on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old was a product of United's academy and part of the side - including Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard - that won the 2011 FA Youth Cup. However, Morrison only made three first-team appearances for the Reds before leaving to join West Ham United in 2012.

Since then, the midfielder has played for 12 different clubs, including stints in Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Holland, and most recently the United States. Sadly, Morrison's career is a tale of unfulfillment that once left Sir Alex Ferguson stunned.

Last year, Rio Ferdinand revealed what the legendary United manager thought of Morrison ahead of his appearance on his 5Live podcast.
