Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri breaks his silence on Darren Moore's future

Darren Moore will be staying on as Sheffield Wednesday manager for next season, chairman Dejphon Chansiri has confirmed. Moore, in his first full year in charge of the Hillsborough outfit, came within a whisker of leading the Owls back into the Championship at the first attempt.

Wednesday secured a fourth-placed finish in League One only to come unstuck in the play-off semi-finals, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Sunderland. The Black Cats will go head-to-head with Wycombe Wanderers in the showpiece Wembley final on Saturday.

Many observers have praised the job Moore has done in turning around the Owls' fortunes. His impressive work has not gone unnoticed, with Moore recently linked with the Queens Park Ranger's manager's job.

Speaking to the local media via Zoom yesterday, Chansiri said: "I appreciate Darren’s ambition. He tried to do his best for the club and now we need to improve our strengths and weaknesses. We still have a lot of jobs to do.

"I speak to him a lot; I spoke with him before we came on this call. We have a good relationship, we talk once a week or sometimes every day.

"If we don’t talk then we’ll text together. He’ll still be here next season - I’ve never thought about releasing him."

Thailand-based Chansiri has vowed to do what he can to support Moore following their play-off heartache. "I always want to get promotion, and I’ll do as much as I can to do that… so of course I’m disappointed not to do that for the fans and for the club," he said.

"It’s football though, you can win or you can lose. We need to accept that."
