Erling Haaland breaks his silence on Man City transfer

New Manchester City recruit Erling Haaland refused to say too much when quizzed on his move to the Etihad Stadium ahead of Norway's upcoming clash with Serbia on Thursday.

City sealed a deal to bring the Borussia Dortmund striker to the club earlier this month, subject to him agreeing personal terms. It is understood that City will pay £51million for his services.

The Norwegian international — who was also being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain — has established himself as one of the most highly-rated players in the world over the past couple of seasons, ever since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020. He scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for the German outfit.

However, despite preparing to link up with the current English champions and one of football's greatest ever managers in Pep Guardiola, Haaland was coy when asked about his move to Manchester. Instead, he was more focused on Norway's quartet of upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Serbia, Slovenia and two meetings with Sweden.

"[The last few months] have been tough," Haaland said. "This thing, it hasn't been simple, at the same time I have been doing the best that I can for Borussia Dortmund for two and a half years.

"It wasn't easy, but I've done the best I can for the club. I'm ready for four games [with the national team] and that makes me happy."

In fairness to Haaland, Norway manager Stale Solbakken opened the press conference by confirming that the 21-year-old would not be answering any questions on his move to City. He highlighted that he has not yet been officially unveiled by the club.
