Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest superstars in WWE history, a performer who mastered every aspect of the game.

His career was a two-part series (if we exclude his 2018 comeback match) due to an injury-enforced retirement in 1998. Prior to that, he had won it all in WWE, with multiple WWE and Intercontinental Title reigns and two Royal Rumble wins in 1995 and 1996, as well a co-founding D-Generation X.

When he returned in 2002, he only added to his legacy, living up to his reputation as “Mr. WrestleMania” with a series of classics with a whole host of new opponents. While his performances were incredible, his transformation of a person was even more impressive.

In recent years, “The Heartbreak Kid” has become involved with NXT and is currently WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development and Creative.

Born in Arizona, the real-life Michael Shawn Hickenbottom spent much of his early years moving around as his father was in the US military. Before eventually settling down in San Antonio, Texas, the family briefly lived in Reading, England.

The Rockers tag team of Shawn and Marty Jannetty formed in 1985 in the AWA. The two were signed by WWE in 1987 but fired only 2 weeks into their contract as a result of an incident in a bar. They were re-signed a year later. Michaels later said the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

The legendary Mr. Perfect, Curt Hennig has been credited with producing the iconic nickname for a young Shawn Michaels.
