Stone Cold Steve Austin is arguably the greatest superstar in WWE history, such was his impact across every aspect of the industry.

Stone Cold engaged in some of the most epic rivalries of all time with the likes of Vince McMahon, The Rock, Triple H and The Undertaker, and is widely credited with being the man who spearheaded the Attitude Era and WWE’s success in the 1990s and early 2000s.

He made a shock return to the ring at WrestleMania 38 this year to face Kevin Owens, which showed that his star power and connection with the fans is as great as ever.

In spite of all of this, there might still be things about "The Texas Rattlesnake" that fans are not aware of, so GiveMeSport takes you through 10 things you didn't know about Stone Cold Steve Austin...

Like many fellow WWE stars, the former Steve Williams received a football scholarship. First to Wharton County Junior College followed by a full scholarship to the University of North Texas. Here he originally played as a linebacker before a switch to a defensive end after a knee injury.

Prior to joining WWE, Stone Cold appeared on WCW as “Stunning Steve Austin.” While at home nursing a neck injury (the first of many), he received a call from WCW president Eric Bischoff informing he had been fired. The two men disputed the reasons for the firing but have made amends and are now good friends.

Looking to make a gimmick change from the “The Ringmaster” in WWE, a new persona was part-inspired by notorious hitman Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski. After being offered names such as Otto Von Ruthless, Austin was complaining to his wife at home who told him to stop before the tea she had made him was “stone cold.” The rest is history.
