Section of M60 fully closed due to 'police incident'

A section of the M60 is fully closed this morning due to a 'police incident'.

The anticlockwise carriageway between junction 22 for Failsworth and junction 20 for Higher Blackley was first shut at around 5am. Rochdale Road overbridge at junction 20 is also closed, according to traffic alert service Inrix.

A diversion route has been put in place. Delays are expected, Highways England said.

At around 6.10am, a closure was also put in place on the clockwise carriageway from junction 19 for Heaton Park to junction 21 for Hollinwood. Traffic is building at the scene.

North West Motorway Police said in an earlier tweet: "We currently have the M60 closed between junction 22 and junction 20 anti clockwise due to ongoing incident, please try and avoid the area if possible, will keep you updated."
