Live updates as police incident closes centre of Aberystwyth

Emergency services are at the scene of a police incident in Aberystwyth.

Police and traffic teams have urged people to stay away as Northgate Street was closed for more than an hour on Thursday morning.

A statement from Dyfed Powys Powys Police at 7.30am said: "Incident currently ongoing at Northgate St, Aberystwyth, Emergency Services are at scene. Could you please avoid the area if possible. Thank you for your co-operation."

Just after 8am they updated the statement saying that the street had re-opened and thanking people for their help. No details of the incident have yet been released.

Traffic Wales had said: "We are advising people to avoid travelling to Aberystwyth for the time being due to a police incident. There will be a full closure of Northgate Street until further notice."

The street is a busy one through the centre of the town.
