Sami Zayn is arguably the most entertaining wrestler in WWE today, with his impeccable comedic timing and ability to make any segment memorable.

Prior to joining WWE, Zayn made his name on the independent scene alongside his real-life best friend Kevin Owens, notably wrestling in Ring of Honor under the ring name El Generico and under a mask. Since signing with WWE in 2013, Zayn has become an integral member of the roster, winning the NXT Championship and three Intercontinental Titles.

Recently, Zayn has become an honorary member of The Bloodline which has created some phenomenal WWE television. It is likely that the storyline will lead to a showdown between The Usos and Zayn and Owens for the Tag Titles.

The real-life Rami Sebei’s parents are both Syrian immigrants, having relocated to Canada in the 1970s. Since the war in Syria, Sami has teamed up with the Syrian American Medical Society to provide medical support.

While he first became famous as El Generico, it was not his first ring name. That was Stevie McFly, who debuted in March 2002. It was under this name that he won his first title, the MWF Provincial Championship.

After a few outings as Stevie McFly, Sami was booked for local promotion Internet Wrestling Scene. IWS wanted a jobber but to preserve his credibility, he was given a mask to conceal his identity. The fans got behind the hapless El Generico and the gimmick stuck from there.
