Sam Lammers sees Rangers transfer exit path become clear as misfit 'offered' career lifeline by Utrecht

Struggling Rangers star Sam Lammers looks set to be offered a career lifeline by Utrecht.

The Dutchman was brought to Ibrox by Michael Beale in the summer for a reported £3.5million as the versatile forward arrived from Serie A side Atalanta. But he has failed to impress so far during his stint in the Scottish Premiership. The 26-year-old has netted just twice so far this season - with his last goal coming back in November in the 5-0 rout of Dundee.

With Philippe Clement looking to put his own stamp on the squad while the Scottish Premiership is in cold storage, the attacker could be deemed surplus to requirements with reports in Holland that a loan exit could be on the cards despite Lammers only signing a four-year deal last summer. However, AD/UN and De Telegraaf are both reporting that a return to his homeland could be on.

It's claimed they are already in the process of trying to work a deal with Rangers with a view to a loan until the end of the season. Even if it is a loan, Lammers is unlikely to have a future at Ibrox.
