Sam Lammers carries lingering Rangers transfer curse as brutally honest Utrecht loanee delivers 'responsibility' address

Struggling Sam Lammers has admitted he needs to take more "responsibility" to end his goal drought as the Rangers loanee searches for his first Utrecht goal.

Michael Beale brought the Dutchman to Ibrox in the summer from Atalanta as one of his top targets - but the forward failed to impress at Ibrox netting just two goals before new gaffer Philippe Clement called time on his spell in the Scottish Premiership and shipped him out on loan to the Eredivise. However, eyebrows have been raised by punters in the Netherlands after he passed up a series of chances against Excelsior in the 1-1 draw.

The 26-year-old did chip in with an assist but has failed to net his first Utrecht goal - with his streak of games without a goal now stretching back to November. Lammers last found the net for Rangers in the 5-0 rout of Dundee at Dens Park on November 1.

Following the full-time whistle, he was honest over the demands put on him after being given the chance to lead the line for his new club. He told RTV Utrecht: "We managed to be ahead in the second half. You have to preserve that."

Pressed on his lack of goals, he responded: "I am also responsible for it. I have to look at myself.

"I have to look for my own opportunities more. On the other hand, it is a trade-off. I was not served by my teammates either."
