Mohamed Diomande to Rangers transfer timeline revealed as incoming midfielder faces final hurdle

Rangers are finally set to step up their January recruitment drive as they close in a move for Nordsjaelland ace Mohamed Diomande.

Sources in Denmark last night confirmed the 22-year-old midfield playmaker is on his way to Glasgow as Gers boss Philippe Clement prepares to push the button on his second signing since taking over. It’s been a slow start to the January window at Ibrox, with Fabio Silva the only new face to have checked in so far following his loan switch from Wolves. But Clement is hoping to kick things up a gear this week - with Ivory Coast Under 23 international Diomande set to lead a mini influx of reinforcements.

The highly-rated Ivory Coast international has been given permission by Nordsjaelland chiefs to leave their US training camp. He will fly to Scotland in the next couple of days for a medical before sitting down with Ibrox chief executive James Bisgrove and recruitment boss Nils Koppen to put the rubber stamp on what’s expected to be a long-term contract.

Left-footed Diomande – linked with Union Berlin and RB Leipzig earlier this season – will provide Rangers with a much-needed creative spark. The powerful ball carrier has filled a variety of midfield roles for Nordsjaelland, who currently sit fifth in the Danish Superliga.

But Clement may well be eying him up to fill the No10 slot in Govan having already allowed misfit Sam Lammers to leave this month. And he could also provide cover on Gers’ left wing following the news that Abdallah Sima has sustained a thigh injury during his duties at AFCON.
