Russell Martin to Southampton Live: Updates as Swansea City boss closes in on Saints job

Russell Martin is set to leave Swansea City.

It's understood the 37-year-old has already agreed to become the Saints' new manager, although there are still several formalities to be completed before he makes the move to St Mary's.

Indeed, there doesn't appear to have been a formal approach to Swansea at this stage, but there's an increasing confidence that compensation between the two parties can be agreed and that Martin will make the move to the English south coast.

The 37-year-old has one year left on his current deal with the Swans, and was last week set to fly to the United States to discuss his future with the club's American owners. He had previously indicated he was open to signing an extension, but never made the trip across the Atlantic.

It's now almost certain he will leave south Wales, with attention likely to soon turn to his successor. Incredibly, reports in the national press have mentioned Nathan Jones as a possible contender.
