Russell Martin to Southampton Live: Updates as Swansea City exit hits snag and John Eustace now favourite to take over
Russell Martin's move to Southampton has dragged on into another week.
The Swansea City boss is still expected to become the new boss at St Mary's, and is understood to have already accepted the offer to take over.
However, the move has been held up over a dispute over compensation. Martin has two values written into his contract, applying to clubs wishing to take him away from SA1. One applies to teams from the Premier League, understood to be around £1.75m, the other is for sides from the Championship and stands at around £1.25m.
Southampton have made the argument they are now a Championship side and therefore are entitled to pay the smaller fee. Swansea, however, have made the case that the Saints were still a Premier League side when they made the approach.
Reports over the weekend have claimed the Saints might even wait until their Championship status is made official before completing a move for Martin, a scenario that certainly won't be ideal for the Swans, whose summer is currently in an agonising state of limbo at the moment.
The search for a successor might well gather pace in the meantime, with John Eustace now the bookies' favourite to take over.
