Russell Martin to Southampton Live: Swansea City boss at centre of compensation dispute and Eustace favourite to take over

It's becoming a little arduous for Swansea City fans, but Russell Martin's move to Southampton looks set to drag on.

Martin is still expected to become the new boss at St Mary's, having already accepted the offer to take over.

However, the move has been held up by a dispute over compensation. The Swans boss has two values written into his contract for clubs looking to take him away from the Swansea.com Stadium.

One figure applies to teams from the Premier League, understood to be around £1.75m, the other is for sides from the Championship and stands at around £1.25m.

Following their relegation, Southampton argue they are now a Championship side and are entitled to pay the smaller fee. But Swansea have made the case they were still a Premier League side when the approach for Martin was made.

There's now a suggestion the Saints might even wait until their Championship status is made official before completing a move for Martin, a scenario that certainly won't be ideal for the Swans, whose summer is currently shrouded in uncertainty.

The search for a successor might well gather pace in the meantime, with John Eustace now the bookies' favourite to take over.
