Russell Martin to Southampton Live: Updates as Swansea City boss remains on verge of exit
Russell Martin's move to Southampton continues to drag on.
The Swansea City boss is still expected to take over at St Mary's, having already agreed to be the club's new manager as they seek to build a path back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Frustratingly, the move has been held up by a dispute over compensation. Martin has two values written into his contract for clubs looking to take him away from the Swansea.com Stadium. A higher fee for Premier League clubs, and a lower fee for those from the Championship. The difference is believed to be around £500k.
Following their relegation, Southampton argue they are eligible to pay the smaller fee, but Swansea have made the case the Saints were a Premier League club when the approach for Martin was made.
It's been suggested the Saints might even wait until their Championship status is made official before completing a move for Martin.
The search for a successor might well gather pace in the meantime, with John Eustace, Chris Davies and Steven Schumacher among the early names mentioned.
