Roy Keane's brilliant response after Erling Haaland said Man United fans chanted 'Keano' at him

Manchester United legend Roy Keane joked the home fans were aiming chants at Erling Haaland about his namesake Robbie during the derby on Sunday.

Keane's history with the Haaland family dates back to his playing days and a rivalry he had with the Manchester City talisman's dad, Alf-Inge. The story began in 1997 when Alf-Inge Haaland was representing Leeds United and accused Keane of feigning injury following a challenge that kept the United man out for the remainder of the season.

The pair reignited their rivalry in 2001 when Keane committed a dangerous tackle on Haaland that damaged his knee and ultimately led to his retirement from football. Now playing for City himself, Erling Haaland was subjected to 'Keano' chants before his first-half penalty in the Manchester derby.

The City star shrugged off the attempts to put him off to fire the Blues on their way to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, Haaland was asked about the pressure he was under before taking the spot kick and how he handled it.

He responded: "A lot of people were singing 'Keano', I don’t know why. But, it is what it is.

"I had the pressure and I scored - it was a fantastic feeling. It was a nice celebration. I have some pain in my knees after that assist from Bernardo (Silva) but it was a nice game."

Watching on in the studio, Keane was asked about the chants and simply replied: "Was that about Robbie Keane? I had no doubts Haaland would score the penalty. He took it very well."
