Rodgers with work to do as Spanish giants ready bid for in-demand Leicester star

Reports in the Turkish media claim Real Madrid are set to move for Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old is currently in the fourth year of a five-year deal he signed when the Foxes bought him from Freiburg in 2018. The Turkey international had impressed with the Bundesliga club, prompting the King Power outfit to make a move. And he has enjoyed 121 appearances in all competitions for the East Midlanders, winning the FA Cup in May 2021.

However, the centre-back will be out of contract in the summer of 2023, meaning his future is up in the air. He will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January next year.

Leicester may offer him new terms but there are many suitors waiting in the wings. Chelsea, Manchester United and LaLiga giants Barcelona are all said to hold an interest.

And Serie A giants Juventus are the latest club to be linked. Real have been mentioned in connection with the talented stopper in the past.

And Turkish outlet Fanatik are reporting that Los Blancos are now ready to make an official approach for the star. It is unclear whether Leicester are willing to let him leave but they could net a decent fee.

The man with 42 Turkey caps has been valued at round the £40m mark. If he does want to try a fresh challenge elsewhere then the Foxes may well move him on while he still has significant value.

Soyuncu made 34 Premier League starts during the 2019-2020 campaign as Leicester finished fifth in the table. However, a dip in form saw his game time reduce last term, with just 19 starts among 23 top-flight outings.
