The bad news and not-quite-so-bad news of Brendan Rodgers' longest winless run at Leicester City

Seven games without a win, the longest such run of Brendan Rodgers’ three-year tenure at Leicester City, is the headline stat, but it’s the similarity of those games that is the biggest concern.

City are not winning because they are conceding the same goals over and over again, and because the opposition are repeating the same simple method of stopping them from scoring. They’re now 14th and must pick up points in the final fortnight or face finishing lower than in the post-title campaign (12th) and maybe even lower than the Great Escape season (14th).

The themes of the Everton loss were the themes of the past few weeks and also of the season as a whole. City went behind because they conceded from a set-piece and then could not find a response because the opposition sat deep.

The manager did also say the onus is on him to find a solution. Since December, he has been trying different set-ups and systems and styles to stop the rot. That he is willing to try new things and is not stubborn in his ways is a good sign. That none of the solutions have worked is not.

But City had a whole hour to respond
