Rangers transfer clearout escalates as wild Hagi bid plotted but Cantwell exit 'slowed down'

Rapid Bucharest are reportedly plotting an ambitious bid to bring Ianis Hagi back to Romania from Rangers this summer.

The 25-year-old Romanian returned from Alaves this summer in search of fresh start under Philippe Clement after starring for his country at Euro 2024 in Germany - but has been told in no uncertain terms by the Belgian that he is not in the first-team plans at Ibrox. The playmaker has been relegated to the Rangers' B team with Record Sport understanding that another start for the senior Light Blues' side would trigger a £6000 per week pay rise - as he currently sits on 99 games for the club.

But after selling star man Albion Rrahmani to Sparta Prague, it has been claimed that majority shareholder Dan Sucu is set to offer Hagi a career lifeline and a return to the Pro League with Rapid. It is claimed by Pro Sport that Sucu wants to drop a "bomb" in the transfer market after a slow start to the campaign under Neil Lennon.

With the former Celtic boss facing the sack after just three months in the hot seat, it claims that the club supremo will "not sit idly by" and believes he can bring Hagi to the club either permanently or on loan with Hagi relegated to the reserves. And it's not just Hagi that is out of the first-team picture - with Todd Cantwell also looking to head out of the door.
