Ralf Rangnick told pressure 'will mount' after Manchester United's FA Cup exit

Match of the Day pundits Leon Osman and Danny Murphy believe that the pressure is mounting on Ralf Rangnick after Manchester United's FA Cup exit.

Middlesbrough's penalty shootout win saw the Reds dumped out of the competition at the fourth round leaving United battling for a place in the top four as well as the Champions League - where they face Atletico Madrid.

Although the Reds occupy the final European spot in the Premier League, their performances haven't been too impressive since the 63-year-old took over.

For the former Premier League duo, they feel the heat may be rising for the interim manager.

"It's a massive blow because it's a chance of winning a trophy and they haven't won many for a long time," Murphy said.

"It puts more pressure on the top four fight and the Champions League run - which they're highly unlikely to win [with] the way they're playing.

"Really, all the emphasis is on the top four and the pressure will mount in the stadium because of the loss in the cup. If you stay in the cup, you get the momentum because you've got a spring in your step, that's a huge blow for Manchester United."

Osman added: "I don't think if you go out of the cup to a Championship team, a division below you, I don't think you can ever say a manager is blameless.

"It'll be interesting to see how his team responds, it has been a tough week both on and off the field.

"I felt Manchester United were starting to progress and that is going to be a big blow, that's going to knock them back, how quickly will it take them to respond? How quickly can they get back on track again?"
