Anthony Elanga discloses what Ralf Rangnick told him before goal in Man United draw vs Atletico

Ralf Rangnick wanted Anthony Elanga to make Atletico Madrid's defenders scared as he came on in the Champions League encounter on Wednesday - which he certainly achieved.

Manchester United came away from the Spanish capital with a fortuitous 1-1 draw on Wednesday despite being outplayed for the vast majority of the match.

Diego Simeone will no doubt still be pulling his hair out on Thursday morning as he watched his side take the lead after just six minutes through Joao Felix and go on to create several more chances to end the match, and perhaps even the tie, as a contest.

Yet Atleti failed to take their chances and with 10 minutes remaining and just five minutes after being sent on Elanga burst through the defence to latch onto Bruno Fernandes' pass and coolly slot past an onrushing Jan Oblak.

It was United's first shot on target in the entire match and Elanga has revealed the instructions Rangnick gave him before his introduction.

"He said to be me what I always do, just make the defenders scared," he told BT Sport.

"Run in behind and when I get an opportunity, take it."

It's been a great week for Elanga who also scored against Leeds on Sunday as he continues to flourish in the chances handed to him by Rangick.

The teenage Swede said that he wants to continue to deliver for the interim manager.

"I just do what I can do when I get on the pitch," he added. "I always tell myself I want to be the best player on the pitch.

"I appreciate the boss, like I said before every time he puts me on I just want to repay the favour for him.

"I wanted a good result for the fans because they travelled a long way and hopefully the next leg at Old Trafford will be even better."
