Ralf Rangnick explains Anthony Elanga example after Manchester United FA Youth Cup win

Ralf Rangnick has described Anthony Elanga as the "best example" for Manchester United's youngsters after they progressed to the FA Youth Cup semi-final.

The 19-year-old was lining up for the young Reds in December during their UEFA Youth League campaign but fast-forward to February and he restored parity in a monumental clash with Atletico Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Travis Binnion's side overcame a slight scare to come from behind to beat Leicester City at Old Trafford on Thursday with Alejandro Garnacho stealing the show with a brace.

Rangnick detailed the mentality needed to break into the first-team fold and emulate Elanga's exploits domestically and now globally.

"He’s the best example of what can happen in two or three months," he told ManUtd.com.

"When I came here at the beginning of December, he had already had on his own mind [that he was leaving on loan], almost left, it was only about to which club he should go on loan.

"For me, it was clear after the first training session I saw him that this was an interesting player, and we should rather consider to keep him in the club.

"This shows what is possible in football with a top mentality, a professional mentality and hopefully he can be a person they are trying to improve and develop their careers in a similar way."

In recent years, the likes of Marcus Rashford, Dean Henderson, Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay have established themselves after coming through the academy.

The German interim manager has already handed debuts to Zidane Iqbal, Charlie Savage, Shola Shoretire and Teden Mengi with Hannibal Mejbri on the fringes of the first-team.
