PSG told to back Mauricio Pochettino as exit rumours grow amid Manchester United interest

Mauricio Pochettino has had his position at Paris Saint-Germain defended by his former manager amid growing reports he could be set for an exit from the club.

Pochettino has of course been earmarked as one of the frontrunners to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager, with the Reds looking to make an appointment before the end of the season.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News this week, United’s players favour Pochettino as their new manager, with the former Tottenham boss looking to be edging towards the exit door at PSG.

Reports in France have suggested the Argentine could be sacked before the end of the season, with Zinedine Zidane being lined up as his replacement.

But former PSG manager Luis Fernandez, who was in charge of the French giants during Pochettino’s spell there as a player, has leapt to the defence of his former charge, and insists he deserves more patience.

“I know the man and the character,” Fernandez told RMC Sport.

“He is criticised a lot, such as not speaking French. It’s his professional side. He wants to be understood in English or Spanish.

“I know the function as a coach at PSG, you are observed and watched, we like you or we don’t like you. The function is complicated. Under the Qatari era, there were a lot of coaches. You have to be calm.
