Sir Alex Ferguson has delivered Mauricio Pochettino verdict amid Manchester United manager plan

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already outlined what managerial qualities Mauricio Pochettino would bring to Old Trafford, as the club continues its search for their next permanent manager.

Pochettino has been installed as one of the frontrunners to take over from current interim manager Ralf Rangnick this summer and was heavily linked with taking over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November. The Argentine was keen to pick up the baton mid-season but Paris Saint-Germain turned down United's advances.

The PSG chief, however, has remained at the very front of United's thoughts, likewise Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, as the club continues to put together a plan to source their next boss. United football director John Murtough has confirmed that the search is ongoing and they want to install a manager that can help bring silverware back to Old Trafford.

"We know that consistency is key as we strive for a top-four finish this season," Murtough said, speaking on Tuesday. "I want to reiterate however that this is not the ultimate objective for Manchester United, and everyone at the club is focused on challenging for the top trophies.

"We are now conducting a thorough process for the appointment of a new permanent manager who will take charge this summer, with the objective to get us back to challenging for those domestic and European titles."

With United set to task their new manager with big ambitions, they will be looking to install a boss with both great pedigree and understanding of what is expected. Although Pochettino has only won two trophies during his managerial career, he ticks no shortage of boxes.
