Police have closed roads around HMP Cardiff this morning following a road traffic collision (RTC). People are being asked to avoid the area.

South Wales Police Cardiff say disruption should be expected 'for several hours' while the incident is being dealt with. The force issued a statement on social media at 12:45 on Saturday morning (October 22).

It read: "Avoid The Area: We are currently dealing with a road traffic collision by Cardiff Prison. Road closures are in place in the area and there is expected to be disruption for several hours.

"Thanks for your patience and understanding while this incident is ongoing."

The prison is next to Cardiff Queen Street railway station and roads surrounding it include Sandon Street and the A4610. According to navbug.uk's Cardiff traffic conditions report, roads affected by the incident and closed are: Station Terrace / Rhodfa'r Orsaf Road from Newport Road (A4161) / Dumfries Place (A470) to Newport Road (A4161) / Dumfries Place (A4161).
