Live updates as flooding causes rail misery for passengers on south Wales mainline
Flooding in the Severn Tunnels is causing delays for rail passengers travelling between Newport and Bristol. One train was being held outside the entrance to the tunnel.
Passengers were told they might have to return to Newport, but are waiting for checks to be made.
Travel monitoring system Inrix is showed there was no service on CrossCountry and Great Western Railway between Newport and Bristol Temple Meads because of flooding at Pilning, on the English side of the river.
Just after 1pm, National Rail said: "Lines have reopened following heavy rain flooding the railway at Pilning. Trains between Newport and Bristol Temple Meads / Bristol Parkway may still be cancelled, delayed or revised."
Disruption expected until 2pm.
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place in eastern parts of Wales and western parts of England, and heavy rain has fallen in the region this morning.
There are also delays between Reading and Paddington because of damage to overhead cables. That disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.
