Philippe Clement issues Rangers answers on transfer hunt, defensive gaffes and directly addresses Shankland poser

Philippe Clement challenged his Rangers side to show the belief that will win them silverware this season, writes Andy Newport in Berlin.

The Ibrox side avoided a fourth straight pre-season loss as they played out an eight-goal thriller with Union Berlin in the German capital. But while doubles from Cyriel Dessers and Tom Lawrence at last showed Gers clicking into gear in the final third, there were further worrying signs at the back as their creaking defence was opened up four times. That will only heap place inject fear into the minds of a fanbase already reeling from the news their side will be locked out of their home stadium for at least the first month of the new season.

But their bullish boss is refusing to give up hope ahead of the new campaign, which kicks off at Tynecastle next Saturday. Clement declared: “It is simple, I want to win everything and I want that mentality in my squad. I’m not looking at it like ‘Is it possible with this or that group’. No, I want this mentality that everybody does his best and goes hard to win everything. That needs to be the mentality. We still have some things to do in the transfer market.

“We go hard for that but those are the things you can’t control, nor the ability of other teams for example. We need to focus on ourselves, as we did in the first five months we were together, to focus on ourselves and push hard with all the players available. To get the maximum out of every game and three points, that is our focus.”
