Philippe Clement drops Rangers transfer clue as boss names what he is looking for from winter recruits

Philippe Clement insists Rangers are working flat out to bring in fresh recruits, writes Andy Newport in La Manga.

So far, the Ibrox boss has only secured one new arrival this month after landing Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves. The big Belgian has been linked with a variety of other targets but hasn’t yet managed to get any further deals over the line. That’s led to some murmurs of unrest amongst the Ibrox faithful, who are desperate to see their team tool up for a huge second half to the season.

But Clement is certainly not blind to the fact that he’ll need some quality reinforcements if Rangers are to build on an encouraging start to his tenure. And he insisted no effort is being spared as he, recruitment chief Nils Koppen and chief exec James Bisgrove lead the hunt for signings. The Gers gaffer said: “Everyone is working really hard for that, to find the right players who can add something extra to the squad. January is always a difficult period in that regard, but everyone in the club is working really hard to bring players here. I expect, everybody expects and we are all working hard. I can’t put a figure on it because I know out of experience that you never get everything you want.

“Maybe the clubs with all the money in the world, they can do that, but not clubs like Rangers. We are going to make it as good as possible in this period but it’s much easier in the summer.”

Clement was speaking after being bizarrely sent-off during Saturday's bounce-game clash with Hertha Berlin in La Manga. He got his marching orders seven minutes after half-time after reacting furiously to a late tackle on Scott Wright.
