Philippe Clement reveals Rangers half time rocket in Hibs stroll as he provides Todd Cantwell injury update

Philippe Clement had deliver a half-time rocket to his Rangers players despite them coasting to victory against Hibs at Easter Road that saw them cut Celtic’s lead at the top of the Premiership to five points.

The Belgian, who revealed before the 3-0 win in Leith that Abdallah Sima could be out for up to three months after undergoing surgery, wasn’t completely happy with the opening 45 minutes as his side emerged from top flight cold storage yet had watched Ridvan Yilmaz and a Todd Cantwell scorcher put them a couple of goals up at the break.

Cantwell stayed inside with a muscle injury but Cyriel Dessers added third for the Light Blues with fellow substitute Tom Lawrence seeing a fourth goal ruled out for a marginal offside decision. Hibs have now not beaten Rangers in the top flight for just over 17 years in the first of two games in hand over Celtic but despite the dominant display the Gers boss said: “I wasn’t pleased about a few things (in the first half). We spoke about it at half time. It was about our positioning, tempo and how aggressive we were. That’s why half time is always useful to speak to the team and show them images.

“We had total domination in the second half and weren’t in trouble. We created enough chances and scored one goal, and could have had a second but it was offside. And the goalkeeper had some good saves. It’s pleasing and I want to see more and more of my team dominating like that. It was a well deserved victory (in the end) and what I wanted to see. Hibs is a difficult place to come. It’s a team who is really good on the ball with a lot of quality so in the first half we had to work really hard without the ball which is what the team did.
