Perthshire football fans quick to sort Germany plans as countdown begins to watching Scotland at Euro 2024

Excitable Tartan Army supporters from Perthshire have already been mapping out plans for a Scots invasion of Germany next year.

The national football team’s spot at Euro 2024 was this week confirmed - with two games to spare - following a campaign of scintillating highs.

Among the travelling party already booked up and heading for the continent in June and July will be the intrepid Jailer Tours.

In fact, such was the confidence that Steve Clarke’s men would get the job done, flights and accommodation was nailed down months ago.

“We booked flights to Berlin with Ryanair at the end of June,” explained trip organiser Craig Mailer (56) of St Madoes. “There are 50 of our group booked up.

“We have hotels throughout Germany booked up with free cancellation and are waiting on the draw on December 2 to finalise our plans.”

Scotland’s place at the major finals has been achieved thanks to a Group A record of five wins and one loss.

Third-place Norway cannot make up the ground and now it is a shootout with Spain to see who qualifies as group winners.

“After securing maximum points after the first five games we were very confident that even Scotland couldn’t mess this up,” Craig laughed.

“However, after the disallowed goal in Spain and Norway winning in Cyprus, the old doubts started surfacing again.

“Thankfully, our minds were put at rest with Spain winning in Norway and we could start to look forward to Germany.”

Craig believes the current Scotland squad is the best for more than 25 years - and that will bring added excitement heading to Germany.

He said: “We’ve had very good players like McFadden, Ferguson and Fletcher but lacked quality throughout the squad.
