Scotland boss Steve Clarke is always watching, so I'll be at my best, says Well star

Liam Kelly has his sights set on the Scotland squad for Euro 2024 in Germany – and that has to be good news for Motherwell.

Kelly, 27, says Scotland boss Steve Clarke is “always watching” and knows that dropping his standards at Fir Park will see him bombed out of the set-up.

He’s going to be doing his best to keep his place alongside Craig Gordon, Zander Clark and Angus Gunn, and Kelly hopes he gets the nod for the finals.

He said: “Every Scottish player will see that as the target, but I’m just going through the process – how important it is to try and train well and play well for your club, because the gaffer at Scotland always tells you he’s watching your club form.

“You don’t get anywhere at Scotland if you don’t play well for your club, so that comes first.”

Kelly says he always knew Gordon would bounce back from the double leg break he sustained in December 2022 and says he’s possibly the best Scotland has ever seen.

Liam says there’s a great relationship between the keepers and they all support each other.

“I never had any doubts that big Craig would come back,” he said. “I remember speaking about that early on – he’s kind of a freak, in terms of how he moves for his age and all that, so I expect him to make a full recovery!

“I’m glad that he is, because he’s an unbelievable goalkeeper, probably one of the best the country has ever had, to be honest.

“The competition is there, it’s brilliant, and I love it – myself, Zander, Craig, Angus, I love it.

“It’s great, all really good guys, we all get on well, and we’re all desperate to play.

“If you don’t play you support the guy who does.
