Person injured after fire breaks out at house in Wigan

A person was left injured in a house fire in Wigan, with crime scene investigators spending hours at the scene conducting investigations on Wednesday (August 14).

Emergency services, including police, paramedics and fire crews, were called to the blaze on Dumbarton Green in Wigan at around 6am.

It is understood one person was left injured. Their condition has not yet been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police, who are leading the investigation.

Forensics officers in white suits were spotted at the scene throughout the day amid enquiries into the fire, that erupted on the first floor of a home.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 6.30am on Wednesday (August 14) three fire engines from Wigan and Hindley fire stations were called to reports of a fire involving the first floor of a house on Dumbarton Green, Wigan.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police while investigations take place.”

Greater Manchester Police have not yet commented on the incident.
