Third murder suspect bailed after death of 'larger than life' dad in horror 'arson attack' on his home

A third suspect arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a dad in a horror 'arson attack' on his home has been bailed, police have said.

Mark Vernal was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the devastating blaze at the property on Dumbarton Green in Wigan on on August 14.

Police said he became 'trapped' inside the burning property and later succumbed to his injuries. A murder investigation was launched by detectives with forensics scouring the scene for a number of days.

A third suspect, a 27-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday (August 20) has since been bailed. A 48-year-old man who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder and section 18 assault has been released pending further enquiries.

And another suspect, aged 45, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, he has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A major incident team are investigating the fatal blaze, thought to have been an arson attack, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Previously, the Manchester Evening News reported that Mark's family had set up a fundraising page to help pay for his funeral, where he was fondly described as a 'larger than life' man. Over £4,000 has been raised so far.
