Kellogg's factory in Trafford Park evacuated after fire breaks out

The Kellogg's factory was evacuated after a fire broke out this evening.

Firefighters were called to reports of the blaze at the iconic site in Trafford Park at about 6.40pm. The blaze involved a ventilation system on one of the factory's upper floors.

Video footage appears to show smoke billowing from the roof of the building. The building was evacuated while fire crews attempted to put out the flames.

Firefighters remain at the scene this evening. No one is believed to have been injured in the incident.

The Kellogg's site opened in 1938 and was the first manufacturing base of the breakfast food manufacturer in the UK. But earlier this year, it was announced that the plant is due to close by the end of 2026.

The firm said the facility’s age meant it was ‘laid out in a way that made sense in the 1930s’ but ‘changes in industrial design and technology’ caused the company to say it couldn’t ‘see a long-term future for our Trafford Park factory’.

The decision to close the factory is expected to cause up to 360 job losses.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:“At around 6.40pm on Monday 26 August, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a commercial building on Park Road, Trafford.

“Fire engines from Stretford, Sale, Eccles, Salford and Altrincham stations quickly attended the incident. The fire involved the ventilation system on one of the building’s upper floors.

“The building was evacuated and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets to
