Pep Guardiola sends Kevin De Bruyne warning as Man City provide Kalvin Phillips update

The weekend is almost upon us and for Manchester City it means the beginning of their FA Cup journey for the season.

Last year's competition will hold a special place in the hearts of City fans thanks to the sensational final victory over Manchester United. The result secured the Blues their second trophy of what would become a five-accolade haul and put Pep Guardiola's side into the history books.

Guardiola warned that Kevin De Bruyne will suffer a recurrence of his hamstring injury if City don't manage is return correctly this month.

City have their captain back in training and tantalisingly close to a return to action after making the matchday squad last week against Sheffield United. He could play for the first time in almost five months in the FA Cup clash with Huddersfield, although Guardiola made it clear that De Bruyne won't be playing back-to-back games on his return.

Guardiola says Kalvin Phillips has been ill this week, and still does not know if the midfielder will leave City this month.

Phillips is staring at a January exit from City, after turning down a loan move in the summer to fight for his place. After realising the games he wants won't be forthcoming, Phillips indicated in October that he has accepted a move away will give him his best chance of reaching the England squad for this summer's Euros.
