Penalty against Rangers that ended 75-game run SHOULDN’T have been as full list of 13 VAR howlers revealed
Rangers' near two-year run without conceding a Premiership penalty shouldn't have ended when it did according to the Scottish FA's mid-season review.
An independent panel has reviewed decisions from the second round of league fixtures and found 13 errors, which include the call to penalise John Souttar for handball against Kilmarnock in the Light Blues' 3-1 win at Ibrox on January 2 - the first spot kick given against them in 75 league fixtures. However, it turns out John Beaton's should have been called to the screen and reversed his call, according to the report.
It also concluded that VAR SHOULD have recommended an on field review for Alistair Johnston's now infamous handball against Rangers. Play was waved on before a graphic showing an Abdallah Sima offside in the build up was shown in the second half. That lead to Rangers going to war with the SFA, demanding the footage and audio be released before requesting that Willie Collum be kept away from their games in a meeting with Hampden beaks. Other errors include Ross McCausland's penalty award at Livingston, Hearts' Beni Baningime not seeing red against Aberdeen and Jose Cifuentes being sent off against Dundee.
