Paul Scholes pinpoints Manchester United mistake in Harry Kane transfer pursuit
Paul Scholes says Manchester United would have better off splashing out huge money on Harry Kane than spreading the spend across multiple players.
United approached Tottenham regarding top summer target Kane early in the summer but were rebuffed and went about the market as if he wouldn’t be sold to a Premier League club. They instead landed Rasmus Hojlund in a £72million deal while Kane moved to Bayern Munich for a fee that could rise to £100m.
Meanwhile, United brought in six other players that cost north of £170m in total amid loan spells for Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilon. Scholes believes Kane would have suited United's style, agreeing that he may have preferred an Old Trafford move. He believes the Reds should have gone full throttle for the striker as a priority given the different dynamic he would have offered.

When asked on TNT Sports whether he thought United should have gone all out for Kane, Scholes replied: “Yes, without a shadow of a doubt. I think Manchester United are crying out for a centre forward. Whatever he would have cost, they should have got him.
“You’re buying 25-30 goals a season. The players they have now, they’re more suited to playing on the left-hand side. Anthony Martial, not a great centre forward. Marcus Rashford doesn’t want to play centre forward, he can’t really do it, he’s a different player.”
Scholes added: “I know they’ve brought Hojlund in, he’s one for the future I think. He hasn’t got a great goalscoring record as yet but we don't know about the future, he may do that. But Harry Kane coming to this team you're thinking 25-30 goals.
“Budget-wise, if you had the money just
