Paul Scholes makes Alan Shearer claim about Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has likened Rasmus Hojlund's style of play to that of former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer.

The Dane joined United in the summer from Italian outfit Atalanta, ending the club's long-term pursuit for a new goal-getter. The Reds agreed a deal that could eventually rise to £72million, with the forward signing a long-term contract at Old Trafford.

Hojlund, who started United's 1-0 win over his former club FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night, has scored three goals for the Reds so far - all in Europe. He netted against Bayern Munich in September and twice against Galatasaray earlier this month.

Though the goals have not been flowing for the 20-year-old, who will be determined to score his first in the Premier League when Manchester City visit M16 on Sunday, Scholes is encouraged by the youngster's start in England, acknowledging his aggressiveness and determination to make something happen. As a result, he believes he could be cut from the same cloth as Premier League icon Shearer. And Scholes believes United's wide players need to do more to help.

"It takes a lot to fill that shirt, but he's a very young player," Scholes told TNT Sports. "He's not got a great goalscoring record as of yet, but he's getting into great positions.

"He needs to find out what kind of centre-forward he is: is he more of a Rudd Van Nistelrooy or an Alan Shearer-type player? For me, he's more of a Shearer, where he's going to want balls crossed into him.
