Ole Gunnar Solskjaer predicted Jadon Sancho's rise to prominence at Manchester United

After months of waiting, Jadon Sancho is starting to show just why Manchester United splashed the cash on him following a long transfer chase.

Having come away empty-handed in their attempts the previous year, United finally landed their man last summer when they signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £73m.

The transfer was seen as one of the most exciting in the Premier League, with one of England’s brightest young stars making his way to Old Trafford having made a name for himself out in Germany, and looking to provide the impetus for United to mount a title challenge.

But things didn’t quite pan out how Sancho or United would have hoped, with the former Manchester City academy star struggling to make an impact upon his arrival and finding himself out of the side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It wasn’t until Solskjaer’s departure that Sancho finally broke his duck for the club, scoring in the 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League.

Since then, with the arrival of Ralf Rangnick as interim boss, the 21-year-old has begun to show the sort of form he demonstrated to grab the attention of the Premier League’s elite, and he put in another starring role at Elland Road on Sunday, leading to him being named man of the match against Leeds by Gary Neville.

The ultimate irony is that, before facing the same opposition on the first day of the season, Solskjaer had accurately predicted how things would pan out for Sancho at Old Trafford.

“He has had a holiday after the European Championships and then he has been a little sick, unfortunately,” Solskjaer told Norwegian outlet TV2 back in August.
