Meanwhile, his deputy Stefan Ortega has barely put a foot wrong when called upon - Southampton in the Carabao Cup last season aside - and retained his place for the Champions League quarter final first leg tie at Real Madrid. The German, whose future is unclear given his desire for more regular football, is set to line up against Wolves on Saturday having produced an assured display off the bench at the City Ground last weekend. He will also start the FA Cup final against Manchester United, just as he did 12 months ago.

City, and their supporters, want the 31-year-old to stay beyond the summer and some feel he should be given a run as number one, or at least be involved more often than he has been outside the two domestic cup competitions.
