Pep Guardiola made Man City transfer stance on Ederson clear last week

It's safe to say that last week was probably one of the least enjoyable Ederson has spent at Manchester City.

He was taken off at Tottenham against his will with an injury, prompting a furious reaction on the touchline as he came off and then time on the bench where he needed consoling. City's No.1 then had to watch as backup Stefan Ortega made the save that kept the title in their clutches, earning him all manner of compliments as well as questions over whether he should start on the final day.

That debate was ended by a medical report that showed Ederson had fractured his eye socket at Spurs and so would be ruled out for both the final Premier League game and the FA Cup Final. He still felt like he had something to offer, but was stood down.

A man who usually shows no emotions then seemed uncharacteristically sad on social media, posting a picture of two important stops that he had made against Tottenham with the caption: "No one understands but me. See you soon." If it isn't a wild misreading of the situation, Ederson seemed to be after some appreciation of his effort in a week where all the focus was on City's No.2.
