Noam Emeran might have changed Erik ten Hag's Manchester United pecking order

A debuting Mason Mount, a returning Lisandro Martinez, a starting Amad and a shining Kobbie Mainoo. There was a lot of competition for headlines from Manchester United's first pre-season outing yet Noam Emeran still managed to steal his fair share.

United returned to action following the summer break in Oslo on Wednesday afternoon, taking on Leeds United in a match that understandably lacked the usual fire of when the two rivals meet but still had plenty of points of interest. With several players still yet to return following their international commitments, Erik ten Hag only had a handful of senior players available to him and all started.

Mount was the main attraction as he made his first appearance in red since his £55million move from Chelsea and immediately began to show what he is going to bring to midfield with a classy display. Tom Heaton was in goal, Lisandro Martinez - back from injury - Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were in defence while Jadon Sancho led the line.

The rest of the gaps were plugged by United's most promising youngsters. Alvaro Fernandez completed the back four, Mainoo and Hannibal slotted in alongside Mount, Amad manned the right wing with Omari Forson on the opposite flank. Given they were the youngsters who started ahead of a lot of competition, it's safe to assume that these six are the ones closest to following Alejandro Garnacho's footsteps into the first team.

None of them did their chances any harm, either. Mainoo was the highlight as he picked up where he left off before an injury ended his season with assuredness in the deep-playmaker role. Hannibal was all action and made one excellent tackle to prevent
