Manchester United takeover news LIVE Sheikh Jassim 'could move on' to other Premier League side

Manchester United's pre-season campaign is underway, but off the pitch there is little hope of a takeover resolution any time soon.

Erik ten Hag's side saw off Leeds United 2-0 in Wednesday's opening friendly - and they are now preparing to take on Lyon in Edinburgh. It's then on the USA tour for the Reds, who have signed Mason Mount from Chelsea and are looking to wrap up a deal for Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana.

In the background, though, is the tedious takeover saga. The Glazers announced their plan to explore 'strategic alternatives' back in November of last year, but there has been little clarity or communication since then. Businessmen Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani remain the two candidates in the race, with fans eagerly awaiting an official update.

Claims have now emerged that Sheikh Jassim could move on to purchase a different Premier League side if his bid is rejected, while Louis Saha has slammed the Glazers for their lack of transparency during the takeover process.

Sheikh Jassim could reportedly move on and try and purchase one of Manchester United's Premier League rivals should he lose out to Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race to take over at Old Trafford, it has been claimed.
